CRICOS October 2026 Update

The October 2026 CRICOS course dataset contained 25,971 valid provider-course records, 92 fewer than September. Behind that modest net decline, 125 registrations appeared, 217 were no longer present and 3,154 continuing records changed in at least one exported field.

October’s largest shift was the scale of updates to continuing records. Tuition Fee changed in 2,680 records, compared with 627 in the preceding August–September comparison. Fee fields dominated the October changes, alongside 351 transitions in the exported Expired field.

All statistics and rankings below are CRICOS.net analysis of the September and October 2026 CRICOS course datasets. They describe snapshot differences, not enrolment trends, confirmed course closures or personalised student fees.

The totals reconcile exactly:

26,063 September records + 125 additions − 217 removals = 25,971 October records.

Of the 25,846 continuing records, approximately 12.2% changed:

3,154 ÷ 25,846 × 100 = 12.2%, rounded.

The remaining 22,692 continuing records had no detected changes.

How CRICOS.net identified the changes

The comparison matched records using CRICOS Provider Code + CRICOS Course Code.

Each composite key was classified as:

  • Added: present in October but absent from September.
  • Removed: present in September but absent from October.
  • Continuing: present in both snapshots.
  • Changed: continuing, with at least one different exported field.

Matching by course name alone could combine unrelated registrations. The composite key preserves provider and course identity.

An addition establishes that a registration entered the later snapshot. It does not establish when the course was created, first taught or opened for applications.

125 course registrations appeared in October

Torrens University Australia and Western Sydney University each recorded 11 additions, followed by Flinders University with eight.

Western Sydney University also recorded 28 removals, giving it a net movement of −17 records. Its additions should therefore be read alongside its removals.

217 provider-course records were no longer present

Macquarie University accounted for 81 absent keys, followed by the University of Canberra with 30.

Removed from the snapshot does not automatically mean cancelled in October. The files do not provide a removal reason or the exact date of an underlying change.

The September monthly update covers the separate August–September comparison. Its removal counts should not be combined with October’s as a count of confirmed cancellations.

3,154 continuing records changed

The main changed fields were Estimated Total Course Cost, Tuition Fee, Non Tuition Fee, Expired and Duration.

One record can contribute to several field counts. A course with revised tuition, non-tuition costs and estimated total cost remains one changed record, while appearing in three field-level totals.

Consequently, the field counts in the summary table must not be added together to calculate the number of affected registrations.

October was primarily a fee update

Fee-related changes were substantially more numerous than changes to duration or Expired status.

Exported fieldChanged recordsNumeric increasesNumeric decreases
Tuition Fee2,6802,63743
Non Tuition Fee1,9791,92653
Estimated Total Course Cost2,7532,70944

All 2,680 Tuition Fee changes had numeric values in both snapshots. No blank-to-value tuition transitions were detected.

The previous August–September comparison identified 627 Tuition Fee changes, as documented in the September tuition analysis. October’s 2,680 changes belong to the subsequent September–October comparison.

These are published course-level database values. They should not be described as annual fees or changes charged to every enrolled student. The comparison does not establish inflation, provider strategy or the reason for individual revisions.

Largest published tuition increases

The following ranking uses absolute increases in the exported Tuition Fee field. All amounts are Australian dollars.

RMIT’s Graduate Diploma in Cyber Security moved from a numeric zero to A$47,040. This is a populated or revised database value, rather than evidence of a conventional increase from a previously free course.

The unusually large Sydney doctoral revision also requires provider-level verification before being used in a budget comparison.

These are recorded downward revisions, not confirmed discounts. Possible explanations include corrections or changes in the represented fee basis, but the snapshots cannot establish the cause.

351 records changed to Expired

October contained 351 continuing records whose exported Expired value changed from No to Yes. No Yes-to-No transitions were detected.

These records remained present under the same composite keys, so they are separate from the 217 removals.

The transition does not establish that all 351 courses closed in October. Operational closure dates, student consequences and reasons require additional evidence.

Course duration changed in 21 records

Ten recorded durations increased and eleven decreased. Selected changes illustrate both directions.

Where duration and fees both change, evaluate them together before comparing course costs. A revised duration can alter the context of a course-level amount; the files alone cannot explain the relationship.

A duration revision does not establish that existing students automatically received a different study plan.

What students and education advisers should verify

Use the live official CRICOS register and provider documentation to check:

  • The course code and provider identity.
  • Current Expired status.
  • Registered duration.
  • Current Tuition Fee and Non Tuition Fee.
  • Intake availability.
  • Provider fee schedules and their applicable period.
  • The amount, payment conditions and inclusions in the individual offer.

The Department of Education’s CRICOS registration information explains the registration framework. The monthly rankings here are independent CRICOS.net analysis, not Australian Government rankings or endorsements.

Methodology and limitations

CRICOS.net compared the September file, with the October file.

Both contained the same 24-column structure. September had 26,065 raw data rows and October had 25,973. Two fully blank trailing rows were excluded from each, leaving 26,063 and 25,971 valid records. Neither file contained duplicate non-blank composite keys.

Records were matched by provider code and course code, and all exported fields were compared for continuing keys. Monetary values were parsed by removing dollar signs and thousands separators and using decimal arithmetic. Numeric zero remained distinct from a blank value. Rankings use absolute dollar differences.

The snapshots identify changes between exports. They do not establish exact change dates, causes, student charges, enrolment outcomes or course quality. Further monthly comparisons are available in the CRICOS.net guides.
