Top 50 Biggest Tuition Fee Increases in Australia: July 2026 CRICOS Update

Posted by CRICOS Guides Editorial Team July 14, 2026

50 largest tuition fee increases

Tuition fees recorded in Australia’s official CRICOS database can change substantially between data releases. In the July 2026 update, some registered courses showed only modest adjustments, while others recorded increases of tens or even hundreds of thousands of Australian dollars.

CRICOS is the official Australian Government register of education providers and courses available to overseas students studying in Australia on student visas. (cricos.education.gov.au)

To identify the largest changes, CRICOS.net compared the previous course database containing 26,450 records with the updated database containing 26,606 records.

Among courses appearing in both datasets:

  • 98 courses recorded a higher Tuition Fee
  • the 50 largest increases involved 23 education providers
  • the median increase within the top 50 was A$6,875
  • the combined increase across the 50 records was approximately A$1.83 million

The figures below represent changes to the Tuition Fee field published in the CRICOS datasets. They should not automatically be interpreted as annual price increases because the registered amount may cover the full duration of a multi-year course.

Methodology

The ranking was produced by matching courses using:

  • CRICOS Provider Code
  • CRICOS Course Code

For every course found in both datasets, the calculation was:

July 2026 Tuition Fee − Previous Tuition Fee

Only records with a positive difference were included. Courses were then ranked from the largest to the smallest increase.

The comparison uses the tuition amount stored in each dataset. It does not estimate living expenses, accommodation, travel, health insurance, or other costs that may apply to an international student.

Important Data Qualification

The two largest changes belong to Kingswood College courses whose previous Tuition Fee field was recorded as A$0, while the July 2026 dataset contains a substantial populated value.

These records are included because they are objectively the largest positive changes in the database. However, they are better described as major CRICOS data revisions rather than confirmed increases from a previously charged tuition price of zero.

School Programs Dominate the Largest Changes

The clearest pattern in the ranking is the dominance of primary and secondary education.

The first 20 positions consist almost entirely of school programs. Within the top 50, the database includes:

Course level Number of entries
Bachelor Degree 11
Senior Secondary Certificate of Education 10
Primary School Studies 9
Diploma 7
Junior Secondary Studies 4
Masters Degree (Coursework) 3
Certificate IV 2
Advanced Diploma 2
Graduate Diploma 1
Doctoral Degree 1

School programs generate particularly large figures because a CRICOS registration can cover several years of education.

For example, a Primary Years P–6 registration may represent up to seven years of study, while a Secondary Years 7–12 registration may cover six years. A revised multi-year calculation can therefore produce a much larger nominal change than an adjustment to a one- or two-year vocational course.

This means the largest dollar difference does not necessarily indicate the largest annual fee increase.

Kilvington Grammar Records the Largest Confirmed Increase

After excluding the two Kingswood College records whose previous Tuition Fee was listed as zero, the largest confirmed increase belongs to:

Kilvington Grammar School – Primary Years P–6

  • Previous Tuition Fee: A$142,624
  • July 2026 Tuition Fee: A$321,748
  • Increase: A$179,124
  • CRICOS Code: 019777F

Its Secondary Years 7–12 registration also appears near the top of the ranking, increasing by A$129,350.

Brighton Grammar Has Two Increases Above A$100,000

Brighton Grammar School recorded two of the largest changes:

Primary Years P–6

  • Previous fee: A$248,508
  • New fee: A$367,854
  • Increase: A$119,346

Secondary Years 7–12

  • Previous fee: A$277,135
  • New fee: A$393,482
  • Increase: A$116,347

The revised tuition figures for both registrations are now above A$360,000.

Again, these are registered multi-year tuition amounts rather than annual school fees.

VET Fee Increases Are Smaller but Still Significant

Vocational education and training courses begin appearing from position 21.

The largest VET increase in the ranking belongs to the Diploma of Leadership and Management offered by HCR Constructions Pty Ltd:

  • Previous fee: A$10,000
  • July 2026 fee: A$20,000
  • Increase: A$10,000
  • Percentage increase: 100%

Other notable VET changes include:

  • Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care: +A$8,000
  • Diploma of Hospitality Management: up to +A$7,000
  • Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management: up to +A$6,750
  • Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning): +A$6,000
  • Diploma of Community Services: +A$5,000

Although their absolute increases are smaller than those of multi-year school programs, they may represent much larger percentage increases.

William Angliss Updated 11 Courses

William Angliss Institute of TAFE has the greatest number of entries in the top 50, with 11 courses.

The changes affect programs in:

  • tourism;
  • hospitality;
  • hotel management;
  • culinary management;
  • food studies;
  • event management.

Three professional-practice bachelor degrees increased by A$2,340, while six other bachelor degrees increased by A$2,160.

Two master’s programs increased by A$2,015 each.

The consistent figures suggest a coordinated update across related course groups rather than isolated revisions.

University-Level Changes Were More Moderate

Most university and higher-education changes in this top 50 are considerably smaller than the largest school revisions.

Examples include:

Institution Course Increase
AIE Institute Limited Bachelor of Game Development A$4,794.56
Torrens University Australia Bachelor of Business (Hospitality and Tourism Management) A$3,300
SP Jain School of Global Management Doctor of Business Administration A$2,400
University of Western Australia Diploma in Commerce – 12 Months A$2,069
TAFE Queensland Master of Cyber Security (Advanced) A$2,000

This does not mean that university tuition fees are generally stable. It only means that, in this particular comparison, the largest recorded increases were concentrated among school registrations.

Tuition Fee Is Not the Same as Total Course Cost

The CRICOS datasets contain separate fields for:

  • Tuition Fee
  • Non Tuition Fee
  • Estimated Total Course Cost

The Tuition Fee field represents the registered tuition amount. Estimated Total Course Cost may also incorporate listed non-tuition charges or other registered costs.

For example, the University of Western Australia Diploma in Commerce increased as follows:

  • Tuition Fee: A$41,301 to A$43,370
  • Estimated Total Course Cost: A$43,301 to A$45,470

Therefore, students should not use the Tuition Fee column alone when estimating their complete education budget.

The Department of Education itself recommends using CRICOS to compare course costs and verify current study options. (Department of Education)

Why CRICOS Fee Changes Need Careful Interpretation

A change in a CRICOS fee field may reflect several different situations:

  • a provider increased its tuition price;
  • a multi-year estimate was recalculated;
  • a previously blank or zero value was populated;
  • the course duration or reporting period changed;
  • the provider corrected an earlier registration;
  • the fee structure was updated across a group of related courses.

The datasets do not provide a reason for each individual revision. It would therefore be inaccurate to claim that every difference represents a conventional price increase charged to all new students.

Students should confirm the current amount directly with the education provider before applying or paying a deposit.

What International Students Should Check

Before choosing a course, students should compare:

  1. the current Tuition Fee;
  2. the Estimated Total Course Cost;
  3. non-tuition fees;
  4. course duration;
  5. annual versus full-course pricing;
  6. possible fee increases in later study years;
  7. the provider’s official offer and refund conditions.

CRICOS is the official starting point, but the final financial commitment should be checked against the provider’s current written offer.

Conclusion

The July 2026 comparison shows that the largest changes to the CRICOS Tuition Fee field were heavily concentrated among long-duration school programs.

The headline findings are:

  • 98 matched courses recorded an increase
  • the top 50 represented 23 providers
  • 19 of the top 20 records were school-level courses
  • the largest confirmed non-zero increase was A$179,124
  • the largest VET increase was A$10,000
  • William Angliss Institute of TAFE had the most entries, with 11 courses
  • the median increase in the top 50 was A$6,875

The figures also demonstrate why CRICOS changes should not be presented without context. A large database revision can reflect a multi-year school fee calculation, a corrected registration, or a newly populated field—not necessarily a comparable annual tuition increase.

For the most accurate decision, international students should check the latest CRICOS record and obtain a current fee quotation directly from the provider.
